Hi, my name is Keidra Morrison and I am the daughter of James Morrison, who died in February 2003. My father was in the 1st battalion of the Gordon Highlanders from 1967-1979. He was born in Dundee but moved to Strichen, Aberdeenshire, when he married my mother, Cathleen Pirie, in 1967. My dad was so proud to be a Gordon Highlander and we were brought up with his love for that. It would have been his wedding anniversary this week, on 3rd June and I thought I would make an attempt on here to see if anyone knew my dad as it would cheer my mother up so much if someone contacted me to tell me that they knew my dad. I would love if anyone had any photos of my dad at any time while he served as a Highlander. He was so proud that we had the Bydand printed on his funeral of service and also he has the Bydand on his gravestone and I also, as a Solicitor and Notary Public have Bydand as my motto. If anyone knew my dad I would love to hear from you - u76km@o2.co.uk. Thanks Keidra Morrison

Hon. Secretary GHLA

Once again the "Annual Waterloo Lunch" is looming. This year it will take place on Saturday 20th June at The London Scottish HQ, Westminster (so not clashing with G In The Park this year). Over the past couple of years, we have seated around 100 members and guests. I personally did not serve with the Gordon's ( some regret now!!), But my father, ( Brian Waterhouse) who sadly passed away in Nov 2005 was a piper ( 1954/1957) with the 1st Battalion P&D's & saw service in Cyprus during the uprising, He was great mates with a guy called Pete Craig (who was also in the P&D's) & lived in Eyemouth after demob. I would like to get intouch with anyone who knew my father & if they have any photo's of his time in the Battalion. I have all his photo's so maybe there are some in which you may recognise former comrades. I would also like to get intouch with an old friend of mine, Joe Loffelman My Brothers & Sister would also like to pass on our heartfelt thanks to Piper Ken Pickles, a true gentleman & very proud Gordon who served with our father in the 1st Battalion in the Pipes & Drums & who kindly played the pipe's at our mother's funeral & wrote a piece of music for our father who was also a very proud Gordon Highlander "Thank You" Bydand

Hello troops, It is with great sadness that I inform you of the death of Vic Crittenden, who died on Saturday night after a short time in hospital. Vic served in the Gordons from 1945 until 1957. During his time Vic served in Cyprus during the unrest, and reached the rank of Sgt. A staunch supporter of the Gordon Highlanders Association, Edinburgh Branch, Vic attended and travelled to many of the associations events despite being unwell for some time. Vic's last visit was at the Edinburgh Branch AGM in early March where his sharp wit was ever present. He is survived by his wife Jean and son Ian. We await details of the funeral. Mike (Pug) Gerrie. Dear Comrades, After infantry training April '64 at Bridge of Don I served in the Regimental band going to Royal Military School of Music Sept '64 to Jan'66. Had lots of good times and not so good times but, didn't we all? Played Rugby for the Battalion. All I needed to know as an academic had foundations in my time as a Gordon. Manchester University 1970 then; Newcastle upon Tyne University. University of Durham Head of Department at Leeds College of Music 1988/97. Seconded to Royal Guard of Oman 1995/99 as Head of instrumental studies Returned to Ireland, teaching at Cork Acemy of Music and Tralee School of Music. Now living in USA. ex-Gordons will eventually dwindle and die,the flame which all we carried will never diminish as long as there is a history of Scotland. Hi Danny, you refer to how time has flown. Well one would confer this however "time" is a difficult conception to grapple with, especially if you consider time and space. When did they come into existence? Time can be seen from a number of prespectives, a Philosophical one and an Psychological one and "Actual" man-made one. Must admit all aspects of time are very intresting. Are you not glad to be out of the Army? I thought there was a lot of time-wasting going on there. Heh Heh

I WAS SENT OUT TO KENYA IN THE EARLY 1960'S TO BE ATTACHED TO THE 1'ST: GORDONS. WHILST IN KENYA WE WERE SENT TO SWAZILAND FOR A PERIOD, THEN BACK TO GILGIL ONCE MORE.LATER ON WE WERE ASKED TO LEAVE KENYA BY KENYATTA, WHICH WE DID AND ENDED AT REDFORD BKS:FROM THERE WE WENT OUT TO BORNEO FOR 12 MONTHS, VERY ENJOYABLE IT WAS TO. GOT A GOOD TAN!!! FROM THERE I WAS SENT TO CYPRUS FOR 6 MONTHS AND AFTER A WHILE THE GORDONS WENT TO GERMANY. FROM CYPRUS I WAS SENT TO SINGAPORE FOE 4 YEARS. I WAS SORRY TO LEAVE THE JOCKS AS I REALLY ENJOYED BEING WITH THEM, AND MADE SOME GOOD FRIENDS. ONE I REMEMBER IS A CHAP NAMED TOMMY HOUSTON AND I WOULD LIKE TO FIND HIM AGAIN IF ANY ONE KNOWS WHERE HE MIGHT BE. I HAVE SOME PHOTOS OF THE SOUTH WALES BORDERERS BEING PIPED AWAY FROM THE JETTY AT KALABAKAN, I THINK,THEY WERE ATTATCHED TO THE GORDONS IN BORNEO TO MAKE UP NUMBERS I GATHER. I THANK THEM ALL BY ALLOWING A "MASH" TO SERVE WITH THEM IN VARIOUS PLACES.

I made a mistake on my dates. I joined the Gordons in January 1958 as a boy like most of us who served as a musician in the Military Band and left December 18 1969. For those of us that went to The Shetlands in 61 will remember Nelly Wallace getting sea sick and we had not left the docks. Derek Dawson who left us in 62 as with a number of other members.I received a photo of our visit to the Shetlands the other day from Bill "Midge" Taylor clarinet player. Here is my Information. I served my National Service in The Gordon Highlander - 'A' Company I completed basic training in Aberdeen - from there I went to Dover. Sustained an injury and was in rehabilitation in Chester. Afterwards returning to Aberdeen and then to Cella Germany. While there I participated in the Tug-of-War Team. Happy to say we won that championship. I now live in Calgary, Alberta Canada and a few years ago met up again with Corporal David Nimmo - who is sadly now deceased. Would be very happy to hear from any of the old comrades.

Is Stan Milner, Jack Harbourne, Percy "CURLEY" Borden or Gordon Danby out there ? Does anyone remember? He boxed for the regiment and we have photos of one particular bout in Germany.

My father joined the Gordons at 16 years old in 1929, served in South Africa, India, and many other places around the world. He was captured at ST.Valary, when the Gordons held back the Germans, to let the troops get off at Dunkirk. He spent 6 years as a prisoner of war in Poland, until he was repatriated in 1944. He is now 90 years old, probably one of the last Gordons still alive from that time. I am his son, and I am still trying to find out what he went through. He must have a hell of a story to tell!

My name is David and I am writing on behalf of my next door neighbour, Richard Lench, who celebrated his 80th birthday this year. He served with the Gordon Highlanders from 1942 to late 1946. He was in the 6th Battalion, S Division and spent most of the war in Italy, starting in Sicily in the South end ending in the North. He and his fellow Gordons (about 25 of them I believe) were unusual in that they were all Londoners. I am unclear as to why they actually ended up in the Gordons, but as Mr Lench tells it they were standing there one minute when a lorry pulled up followed by a "You lot, in here" and before he new where he was he was he was celebrating his 20th birthday as a Gordon and was on his way to Italy. Mr Lench has often wondered what happened to the Gordons he served with so if anyone can shed any light on this then please direct your enquires through me. I believe this specially formed Division was set up purely for the War and was disbanded immediately after. For the record, Mr Lench is fit and well and can talk for England! If anyone can tell me how to trace this more accurately then Id be keen to hear from you. And finally, Mr Lench also tells me that when he was about to be demobbed he was told he would get a Kilt - he never got it. Do all Gordons get a Kilt when service is completed? If so Id love to know how this might be rectified.
