Bydand Forever in Scotland?
Yes, we are looking into making our first UK tour since the Huntly 2000 celebrations.  Plans are only in the early stages, but we're hoping to be in Scotland during the last two weeks of July 2009.  Though it does not appear that we'll be permitted to attend the regimental events in Aberdeenshire during that time, we hope you'll see us elsewhere, perhaps Inverness and Edinburgh.  We'll keep you posted as things progress....

I WAS SENT OUT TO KENYA IN THE EARLY 1960'S TO BE ATTACHED TO THE 1'ST: GORDONS. WHILST IN KENYA WE WERE SENT TO SWAZILAND FOR A PERIOD, THEN BACK TO GILGIL ONCE MORE.LATER ON WE WERE ASKED TO LEAVE KENYA BY KENYATTA, WHICH WE DID AND ENDED AT REDFORD BKS:FROM THERE WE WENT OUT TO BORNEO FOR 12 MONTHS, VERY ENJOYABLE IT WAS TO. GOT A GOOD TAN!!! FROM THERE I WAS SENT TO CYPRUS FOR 6 MONTHS AND AFTER A WHILE THE GORDONS WENT TO GERMANY. FROM CYPRUS I WAS SENT TO SINGAPORE FOE 4 YEARS. I WAS SORRY TO LEAVE THE JOCKS AS I REALLY ENJOYED BEING WITH THEM, AND MADE SOME GOOD FRIENDS. ONE I REMEMBER IS A CHAP NAMED TOMMY HOUSTON AND I WOULD LIKE TO FIND HIM AGAIN IF ANY ONE KNOWS WHERE HE MIGHT BE. I HAVE SOME PHOTOS OF THE SOUTH WALES BORDERERS BEING PIPED AWAY FROM THE JETTY AT KALABAKAN, I THINK,THEY WERE ATTATCHED TO THE GORDONS IN BORNEO TO MAKE UP NUMBERS I GATHER. I THANK THEM ALL BY ALLOWING A "MASH" TO SERVE WITH THEM IN VARIOUS PLACES.

Angus Bannerman
January 1958 - December 18 1969

I made a mistake on my dates. I joined the Gordons in January 1958 as a boy like most of us who served as a musician in the Military Band and left December 18 1969. For those of us that went to The Shetlands in 61 will remember Nelly Wallace getting sea sick and we had not left the docks. Derek Dawson who left us in 62 as with a number of other members.I received a photo of our visit to the Shetlands the other day from Bill "Midge" Taylor clarinet player. Here is my Information. Angus Bannerman 37,Brouwer Cresent Wasaga Beach. Ontario Canada. L9Z-1L8 E-Mail Address: Angusbanner   @  AOL.CA I would like to hear from all former Military Band Members.Bydand for Ever.

Spent a lot of time away on postings to the Depot, PWO(Bosnia) and Warminster. had a great visit to the Highlanders in Feb 07 met with Lance Darling who is RQMS. Lance and the RSM showed us great hospitality and made us feel really welcome. I would recommend anyone who wants to "re-vist" do it sooner rather than later. My father, Tom Lazell, who is fit and well has told me stories of his time in the 1st battalion, the second battalion in Germany and his secondment to the Kings African Rifles in Kenya and East Africa. Is Stan Milner, Jack Harbourne, Percy "CURLEY" Borden or Gordon Danby out there ? Does anyone remember? He boxed for the regiment and we have photos of one particular bout in Germany.

My father joined the Gordons at 16 years old in 1929, served in South Africa, India, and many other places around the world. He was captured at ST.Valary, when the Gordons held back the Germans, to let the troops get off at Dunkirk. He spent 6 years as a prisoner of war in Poland, until he was repatriated in 1944. He is now 90 years old, probably one of the last Gordons still alive from that time. I am his son, and I am still trying to find out what he went through. He must have a hell of a story to tell!
