Piping Samples:
While Bydand is very proud of our own Drums & Pipes, we'd like to share some of the music that we have helped make available through performances of some of the world's top pipers.  Samples of Regimental music performed by the real Drums & Pipes are available here.

Piobaireachd Sample
P/M. Angus Macdonald's last public performance was at the 1997 GS McLennan Piping Competition.

Bagad
A sample of some of Alexis Mournier's amazing music from Brittany (GS McLennan Awards Banquet, 2005).

Light Music
Alan Bevan is featured (GS McLennan Awards Banquet, 2005).

This photo, taken from the Regimental Museum's collection of artwork, gives an indication of what the Drums & Pipes looked like at the time of the 1881 army reorganisation.  It is interesting to note that the Pipe Majors of both battalions had less than pristine service records before being appointed Pipe Major.  Both of them had been marched up to the Officer Commanding on charges of drunkenness and one of them of insubordination!

While Bydand's current Ds & Ps are not given to drunkenness, more than one is extremely fond of a good single malt whisky, and any of the sergeants will tell you that the Ds & Ps can be a handful when they take a mind to it.  It is with something of a sigh of relief that we can carry on knowing that there are some things in life that don't change.

No self-respecting Highland regiment would take to the field without its pipers, and Bydand Forever is no different.  Using a blend of Regimental tunes, period tunes from the 1880s, and more modern tunes, our pipers add a brilliant flash to the Unit's overall presentation.  The same standard of excellence Bydand puts into its drill and marching is applied to the musical side of the Unit.  Our pipers put in many hours of practice, and have won piping competitions up and down the West Coast.

If you would like to hear some music samples, please take a look at the list given on the links bar to the left.

Our recent tour to Halifax provided the perfect opportunity to break out our newest addition to the Ds & Ps.  We were fortunate to have our full complement of drummers and pipers along for that very memorable trip.  We were also very pleased to have received a bit of artwork from Kelvin Hunter (Fort George, outside Inverness).  As one of the primary staff at the regimental museum there, and having a fine eye for painting, he prepared a set of canvas covers for our drums emblazoned with the Regimental devices (with the permission of the Colonel).  These magnificent covers will be on our drums for special events...keep an eye out for them!
